I finished Full-Stack Engineer course on Codecademy in eight months with a 9-5 job
I paid and finished Full-Stack Enginner course on Codecademy. While having a 9-5 job, I think paying a course to help me get through all the stuff is more efficient than searching and getting fuzzy by myself. In general, the course is great. Not only step by step toturials, but it also provides project-based learning, which makes me familiar with front-end and back-end design quickly and efficiently.
The only problem I need to tackle is finding time to learn. My goal is to have around 4 hours per day for learning. On working days, I get up at 6:00am and do the step by step coding toturails for about 1 hour. Then, I’ll headning to work. During the commute, I do research and study materials for projects of Codecademy. Honestly, that’s a pretty tiring morning. Therefore, after I arrive at my work place, I’ll have a nice coffee and chill for about 30 minutes until 8:30am, which is a perfect time to start my daily job work. After work, family time and household chores are non-negotiable, but I can still manage to have at least 1 hour to dive into projects. It’s the time when the most of the code is built and the projects are deployed.
On Holiday, sometimes I just take a break for a day, or I’ll get up early to have at least 3 hours of time slot to focus on the projects and then enjoy the rest of the day with my family. I try not to work too hard on holiday because I’m also afraid of burnout. Whenever I hit burnout, it always makes me not want to work for about 1 month, and that’s pretty scary for me.
And that’s pretty much how I learn during the whole 8 months. Although the Full-Stack Enginner course is meant to be finished in 6 months, I’m still happy what I’ve accomplished and the knowledge I’ve got. I also know it’s still just the begining of the journey of full-stack enginner, but now I can build something and do research by myself more efficiently bacause of having the fundamental knowledge of web development.
